I know this was a win, but other than a lucky bounce for Pothier what did the Caps do 5 on 5? 3 power play goals is great and an empty netter to seal it was also great, but the Caps did not generate offense in the second or third periods. I was very happy to see Brian Pothier score his first goal since December 2007 though. What a story this is! I was a little disappointed he did not get a standing ovation, although he got a semi-standing ovation and I know why. Everyone in the building that wasn’t standing doesn’t even know that Pothier has been struggling with post-concusssion syndrome for the past 15 months. They don’t even know who he is most likely. At any rate, I thought it was great and I am glad that he is back.
The Caps are going to lose in the first round of the playoffs because they don’t clear the puck or play defense or score 5 on 5. I highly doubt someone is going to give them 9 power plays in a playoff game when their power play is as good as it is. Give me a break. The Caps had better find a way to win a lot of 3-2 and 2-1 games because that is how you get it done. We’ll see.
